HO HO HO!
On the morning of Saturday, December 2, Carlo and I put on red 5-piece Santa suits and ran the Great Santa Run 5k with our friends Gabi and Mike. Or should I say, they ran and I walked because I was a bit hungover from Adam’s 30th birthday party the night before.
We just had to participate in the Great Santa Run, as how funny is it to dress up like Santa, but more importantly the run in Vegas was vying for the Guinness Book of World Records for the Most Santas Running award against Santa races in Liverpool AND Glasgow ! Needless to say, I wanted our new hometown to win against my mum and dad’s hometown, as well as Alison’s closest hometown!
The saying is that everything is bigger in Texas, but Vegas sure knows how to do things big as well! Thousands dressed up as Santa, including lots of little babies and puppies, showed up on Fremont Street, and even though all of them didn’t go through the extra registration step required for their participation needed for the Guinness Records, Vegas ended up beating the 2006 Liverpool record of 3,000+ Santas and Liverpool’s 2007 record of 6,000+ Santas with 7,269 Vegas Santas! Glasgow’s run is this weekend, but they are only expecting 3,000 Santas so our record will still hold until next year.
Plus I also got to see Siegfried and Roy because they were the official sponsors of the race, although none of my photos of them came out! Finally my first real “star” sighting in Vegas.

Santa Carlo, Santa Gabi, and Santa Mike

Santa Carlo and Santa Alex on Fremont Street with thousands of other Santas. Thank god my sunglasses and beard are hiding how how green I was that morning ![]()

Ho Ho Ho

The “Real” Santa Claus

After I stopped running because each step made my head pound, I tried to take some photos that recorded the thick throng of red suited Santas running through the streets of Downtown. None of the photos that I took really captured the spirit because it was quite a spectacle. Even more impressive was the Santa suit carnage throughout the 5k course, including Santa belts and beards, as well as tons of bits of red Santa suit fluff that were all over the roads.

Merry Christmas!
